The Founders

Melbourne-based Hummm is led by Emma Vaughan and Zoë Rubino, two innovative women on a mission to simplify skincare through a refined, grounded, and honest approach. Combining a mutual understanding for a complete multi-sensory experience and respect for business, the pair created Hummm out of a desire for skincare products that honour inner and outer beauty with equal measure. Emma, an interior designer, and restaurateur grew up creating remedies from ingredients found on the land surrounding her home on Queensland’s Sunshine Beach. It was here that she cultivated a passion for naturally derived treatments that encourage a stronger connection between the mind and body.

Emma has drawn on her philosophy of minimal intervention throughout her work as a designer and restaurant owner, now harnessing it in Hummm to offer a new paradigm for skincare that promotes the act of self-care as fundamental to both physical and mental nourishment.

Zoë, a Perth native and an accomplished hospitality professional, has worked for some of Melbourne’s most lauded hospitality groups. It’s here that she has cultivated a strong understanding of, and appreciation for, the power of experience.

Her early memories of watching her older sisters and mother practice their daily skincare routines set Zoë on rigorous skin care routine from a young age. Perpetually time poor in an industry that required she constantly looked her best, Zoë sought out a pared back approach to skincare but found it hard to find a brand she resonated with that was both transparent and effective.

Emma’s & Zoë’s shared fervent appreciation for skincare coupled with the frustration of finding a simple and effective skincare solution in their busy day-to-day lives compelled them to create Hummm. They discovered a way to fill the gap within this space, offering two simple and effective products that work. In developing Hummm, Emma and Zoë want to establish that skincare can offer a window into something more human, more textured, and ultimately more fundamental:
